Bookmarcs keeps your sidebar on this computer. If you sign in and you are on Pro, we also keep a copy so your other computers can catch up. Paid plans are billed through Stripe. We don’t sell bookmarks. We don’t run ads against your pins.
What stays on this computer
Your pins, folders, Favorites, spaces, settings, and which pin is open in which tab all live in Chrome, on this machine. Import and export are files you choose. Uninstalling the extension deletes the local copy.
What the extension can see
Showing your open tabs in the sidebar needs their titles, addresses, and icons — the same things Chrome is already showing you.
Search can also look at the text of pages you have open. Chrome asks you once before that happens. If you allow it, we read the visible text once, hold it briefly so typing stays fast, and leave nothing running on the page. You can say no, and Search still matches titles and addresses. We never read Chrome’s own pages, sleeping tabs, or PDFs.
Your account
Clerk handles sign-in and holds your email address. We keep the account id it gives us so we know which sidebar is yours. You can sign out any time from Settings. Clerk’s policy is at clerk.com.
Sync
Signed in and on Pro, a copy of your sidebar is kept on our servers so another computer can pick it up. Edits happen here first and never wait on the network. We don’t read it, mine it, or sell it, and it is never used for advertising.
Those servers are rented from Cloudflare, the same way any website sits on someone else’s machines. On Free there is nothing to sync, so nothing leaves this computer.
Billing
Paid plans go through Stripe Checkout. Stripe collects the card — we never see it. We keep your subscription status so the sidebar knows you are on Pro. Stripe’s policy is at stripe.com.
Usage stats
We count a few moments — opening the panel, finishing the intro, making a first pin — so we can see where people get stuck and fix it. Making the product better is the entire purpose, and there isn’t a second one.
None of it is about you or what you keep: never an address, a page title, a pin, a space name, or an email. Turn it off in Settings underUsage stats, which also throws away the random id it was using.
This website
Separate from the extension. This site counts page views and clicks: which page you landed on, roughly where you came from, whether you got as far as the plans, whether you pressed Add to Chrome. It keeps a random id in your browser so reading two pages doesn’t look like two people.
There is no session recording — we are not replaying your mouse across a page that is trying to sell you a sidebar. If your browser sends Do Not Track, we skip all of it. The site cannot see your sidebar, and the sidebar does not report what you read here.
Who else sees data
- Clerk — your email address and sign-in.
- Stripe — checkout and subscription records, if you pay.
- PostHog — the usage stats above unless you turn them off, and page views on this website.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use it for unrelated advertising. We do not hand it to anyone else except the companies above, or if the law requires it.
How long
What’s on this computer lasts until you clear it or uninstall. The synced copy lasts as long as the account does. Ask hello@bookmarcs.app to delete it and we will.
